Interviewer: [Speaks in Italian: Good evening. This evening we talk about yoga, and we talk about it with an exceptional guest. She made us the courtesy to come and meet her, Mrs. Shri Mataji, whom we thank. She arrived today in Rome and immediately wanted to be a guest of our broadcast. Mrs. Shri Mataji, better known as the Great Mother, is an exceptional person. She had an incredible life experience. Think, she was the leader of the Liberation Movement of India. And, at the same time, she is also a perfectly normal person. Why do they call you the Great Mother?] Translator [Alganesh]: Why they call you ‘La Grande Madre’? Shri Mataji: Because I have so many children whom I have given Realization. And Realization is a second birth, so that’s why they call Me ‘Grand Mother’.

Translator: How do you awake this energy which is latent in all, in the person? Shri Mataji: It is a spontaneous happening, like the Mother Earth can sprout any seed. It happens that way, it’s spontaneous. It’s the force which is living force and which acts, which works it out.

Translator: What do you think about these false gurus, that to teach they make them pay? Shri Mataji: You cannot pay for anything that is spiritual or anything that has to do with God, because God doesn’t understand money. It cannot be purchased. It cannot be organized. And one should be very careful. Those people who come and try to make money out of you—actually nobody should live on the money earned in the name of God.

Translator: Do you think that by making Sahaja Yoga, you will live better? Shri Mataji: Of course, it does tremendous good to you, because when this latent energy of pure desire rises within you, the first thing that happens to you is that you get rid of most of your diseases. Your pathological troubles also disappear. Not only that, but you become a very emotionally stable person. Then you become a very peaceful person. You become a righteous person. And the religion that is within you, which is your valency, also is awakened.

Also, apart from that, you become such a dynamic person, you never get tired. Your age looks as if twenty years have dropped out of your age. Apart from that, the greatest of all is a complete transformation of your awareness. You develop the awareness, the fourth awareness as they call it, of collective consciousness, where a microcosm becomes a macrocosm.

Translator: Yoga is not—in Europe it’s understood like a physical yoga, but it’s spiritual. Shri Mataji: Yoga means union with the Divine. And once the union is done, then you have to do the physical, because it is very indiscriminate. Supposing you have a problem in your throat, and you are doing the exercise of your stomach, what’s the use? Unless and until Kundalini rises, how will you know where is the problem is?
